We would like to invite you to come to our church.
Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus!
Would you allow me to introduce myself? My name is Josiah, and I am the pastor of Cottam Baptist Church. Since you've taken the time to visit our website, it seems fitting that I introduce to you our church and, more importantly, the message of good news which we believe and teach here at Cottam Baptist.
We are a fellowship of believers in the Lord Jesus who have joined together because of our common association with Jesus Christ and because of our shared set of beliefs based on the Word of God. We place high value on reverence toward God, which is evident in the thoughtfulness that goes into selecting the hymns we sing, the carefulness with which we search out the meaning and relevance of God’s Word, the dependence that we have on our Lord in prayer, and more. We believe that the Word of God is our authority, that it was breathed out by God Himself without error as the Holy Spirit moved the human authors to record the very words of God. We try, then, to avoid two ditches: (1) doing things simply because they’ve always been done a certain way and (2) doing things simply because they produce a certain result, whether that be a spiritual high, an increase in attendance, or anything else. At the end of the day, our ultimate goal is to please our Lord by following His Word. You will find at Cottam Baptist people who genuinely care about you, who want to help you grow in your knowledge and love for Jesus Christ and in your increasing to become like Him as you submit yourself to His Word. We love our Lord, His Word, and each other.
Most importantly, we believe what the Bible says about Jesus Christ—that He is God the Son, who has forever existed, but who chose to become a human so that He could die in our place. Scripture teaches that we have all done what is wrong in God’s sight, and since God is absolutely pure and just, He must punish all who choose to do wrong. But He is also a God of grace, mercy, and love, and so He provided the means for us to be forgiven, reconciled to Him, adopted into His family, and eternally alive with Him. Jesus Christ died so that we can be forgiven. He conquered death so that we can live forever with Him. If you’d like to know more about your need to trust in what Jesus Christ has done for you, I encourage you to read God’s Word, particularly the New Testament. And if you have questions, feel free to ask us! We will do our best to point you to the answers in God’s Word. We also invite you to stop by for one of our Sunday services, at 11 a.m. or 6 p.m. You’re welcome to observe what we’re all about and perhaps ask any questions that you have. We’d love to meet you!
Thank you for taking the time to read this introduction. You can also find out more about us here on our website or by giving us a call at (519) 839-4789. I look forward to how I and the others here at Cottam Baptist can assist you in knowing our Lord Jesus Christ.
In Christ,
Josiah Dennis
